Traveling often takes us into the unknown. It provides that chance for us to go into new and unfamiliar territories. It tests our perspectives of what we think we know. Not only do we learn more about the world we live in, but we learn more about ourselves and what we are capable of.
What are some of the things you’ve learned from your student tour?
Did you get a confidence boost from accepting the challenge of navigating a new city subway system? How about finding your new rhythm when taking part in salsa dancing lesson? What about getting a new definition of majestic when gazing out from the steps of the gently glowing Lincoln Memorial at night?
There are countless ways travel inspires us to grow. Here are a just a few of our favorites:
1) Remember that experience is king.
It can be scary taking those first few steps into a new adventure, but always remember that there are priceless lessons you can learn along the way. All it takes is the courage that you already have to make the first move. So what are you waiting for?
2) Appreciate the things you can’t always see.
One of the beautiful things about travel is that it’s invaluable. There are always incredible sites to be seen, but some of the most valuable ‘souvenirs’ you can walk away with are expanded perspectives.
3) Forget what you think you know.
Some of the best hidden gems travelers find on their adventures are because of their openness to exploring what at first glance may look like everything else they see, but upon further investigation, turns out to be a true diamond in the rough. Keep in mind there is always more to discover.
4) No matter where you are, truly look around at what you see.
It’s so easy to get in the habit of looking over the details of your surroundings. Now more than ever, we are always in a hurry to see and do as much as we possibly can. Stop and take a deep breath on your adventures. Take in everything with your senses. What do you see? What do you hear?
5) Enrich your experience by opening yourself up to others.
Don’t just get to know the sites you see, but the people you see them with. You can learn an incredible amount from traveling with others – both about them as well as yourself.
