EF Students and Awamaki Help Empower Rural Peru

Nestled away in the Andes you’ll find the remote Peruvian village of Rumira, where the non-profit Awamaki has been working with women on skills training to help them grow their local economy. Over the past two years, partnering with Awamaki, EF has sent students on Service Learning Tours to the village to work on projects that help support the community. Last year, Emerson College student Trenton H. traveled to the village with his former high school and had the chance to document the group’s project ─ building a women’s knitting and craft center ─ and interview non-profit staff members and his travel mates.

Trenton H. is currently studying video production at Emerson College in Boston. Trenton got a taste for travel at a young age and hopes to make a career of combining it with his passion for filmmaking. He recently returned from Europe, where he worked on developing a 12-part travel documentary series with another student.
