Well, thanks to modern technology, language barriers are becoming few and far between. With the help of your phone and a few minutes of your time, you’ll be speaking like a local in no time!

Here are some of the best language apps to try:

Duolingo: Designed with a game-type feel, you can learn 23 languages for free! Lessons are designed to take about 10-15 minutes each, perfect for your pre-tour days, commutes, or even as an in class break for your students. It’s easy to see why this is the largest and most popular language learning app on the market.

memrise/Via memrise.com

Memrise: Learning is fun with Memrise! With their interactive, game-like interface you’ll hardly notice the knowledge you’re gaining. busuu/via busuu.com

Busuu: If you want to learn some local slang, improve your idiomatic vocabulary or just practice, then this is the app for you! As the “world’s largest social network for language learning,” Busuu pairs online courses with active communication.
