Friday Fun Fact: Chambord's Staircase

Leonardo Staircase Chambord

The central architectural highlight of Chambord—the largest château of France’s Loire Valley—is its grand double-helix staircase.

The staircase includes two separate entrances and two sets of intertwined spiral staircases that never meet.

It’s believed that Leonardo da Vinci—a friend of King François I, who built the château as a hunting lodge—may have created the original idea for the staircase.
