Five reasons to earn graduate credit through your tour

What image comes to mind when you think about educational travel? For many, it’s a wide-eyed student with a backpack, eager to experience the world. It should be no surprise that EF’s philosophy supports this image. We believe there are no boundaries to the classroom. No limits to the power of experiential learning… for both students and educators.

In the spirit of lifelong learning, hundreds of educators have taken advantage of graduate-level credit with Southern New Hampshire University (SNHU). Through this exclusive opportunity, EF travelers develop global competence skills in order to advance their professional practice. After surveying past participants, five compelling reasons emerged to pursue a custom-built graduate level course while on tour.

1. Travel is the most exciting platform for professional learning.

SNHU has designed a course that enriches the tour, while encouraging educators to implement change within their classrooms and communities. Semi-asynchronous learning allows for flexible participation, from any place with an internet connection. The coursework is online, yet the cornerstone of the learning experience is exploring unique places around the world and developing a deeper connection to global perspectives. One educator summed it up nicely saying, “I truly enjoyed this experience which enhanced my EF tour through research, reflection, and growing as a global citizen in many ways!”

2. It can help you recertify and increase your earning potential.

Documented professional growth has the potential to lead to a license renewal or salary bump. Among many reasons, past participants signed up to “earn points towards recertification” and to “advance to the next pay scale.” This course enriches your experience, furthers your career, and can reward you for your increased wisdom.

3. You will be inspired to improve your professional practice.

One educator reflected, “I researched areas that I had not previously studied and I feel it really opened new opportunities for teaching ideas.” Examples of final projects range from inspiring response to climate change; to examining cultural similarities among communities; to integrating VR technology into a world geography lesson. This is the perfect excuse to investigate a topic that you’ve always wanted to learn more about and try something new in your practice.

4. You will experience the future of education.

Named 2017 Most Innovative University in the North by U.S. News & World Report, SNHU pushes the boundaries of higher education. By relentlessly challenging the status quo and providing the best support in higher education, SNHU has expanded access to education by creating high quality, affordable and innovative pathways. When you enroll with SNHU, you receive expert guidance from an instructor, an academic mentor, and a community of classmates from around the country who are traveling to all corners of the world.

5. It’s an investment in your health!

Learning occurs well beyond K-12 and is vital to gain the knowledge and skills needed to push the boundaries of any profession. As discussed in Harvard Business Review, seizing opportunities for learning has more than economic and intellectual benefits – lifelong learning is good for your health too! Adding a graduate course to your tour can encourage more curiosity, make more meaning of the experience, and, ultimately, inspire others to be lifelong learners.
